Varenna – Day Two

Forgot to include yesterday that it thundered and lightninged while we were at dinner last night. The weather forecast has been for thunderstorms here all week. It turned out to be nice yesterday and we woke up to  clouds and fog lifting  off the lake. We decided we would take advantage and make the climb to the castle above Verenna. It was a short  but steep walk on a cobblestone path. We were rewarded with views from the castle tower and some unusual art. Well worth the effort.

The afternoon was spent taking the ferry to Bellagio. As far as I could tell there was no casino. Bellagio is much more commercial than Verenna but nowhere close to Venice. Pizza for lunch, gelato for desert and then back to Verenna. It looked like it was about to rain but somehow avoided us.

After a little rest and relaxation, it was over to happy hour with the group. I ordered a draft beer and was a little surprised to find out that it was not Italian but a German beer. I have usually been drinking the wine, feeling that when in Italy, do as the Italians do. From there, it was off to dinner. The first place on our list turned out to be closed on Wednesdays. The second choice, Osteria Quatro Pass, turned out very good anyway. We saw more rain this evening. If it only rains evenings and nighs, we will be pretty lucky.
