Appalachian Trail – Day 2 – Title

Tuesday, 3 June

Destination: Annapolis Rocks (1051
1)
Start Location:Raven Rock Shelter (1067.2)
Today’s Miles: 11.5
Trip Miles: 16.1

Bob and I were unable to sleep in. We made coffee, had breakfast and were hiking by 7:30. Today’s hike went thru fields, over rocks and had some stretches that felt cushiony soft. One 500 foot climb was tough in the 85 degree heat.

We met our second mother daughter team. They started in Georgia and the daughter was looking forward to the halfway challenge, one half gallon of ice cream in one sitting at Pine Grove State Park. Other hikers were from Alaska, New York, North Carolina and Australia via NYC.

Bob and I stopped for lunch at Ensign Cowall Shelter. We met a mother hiking with her twenty year old son. They were planning on four nights but he was ready to quit after one night.

Annapolis Rocks where we are camped has some beautiful but hazy views with no graffiti! There is an on-site caretaker. An Outward Bound group is nearby for the second night. There are numerous signs noting nesting venemous snakes. No fires allowed and no picnic tables.

We had plenty of nice cold water sources in today’s heat. Tomorrow is a little shorter day. One of my hiking shoes is slowly self destructing, I hope it makes it to Harpers Ferry.

Yesterday’s photos were uploaded this morning. Today’s are not uploading.
