2023 Europe – Day 22 – Relaxing in Lisbon

Wednesday, 24 May

Slept in a little bit then had breakfast. Dolora and I then did the town walk to the Bairro Alto and Chiado sections of Lisbon. Bairro Alto means High Town so we started with a climb up to a park with views of Lisbon. Through some narrow cobblestone streets, then a beautiful church that contains a side alter from the Vatican. Past a couple of town squares and a stop for an espresso at a 100 year old coffee house. Then probably our last gelato of the trip. We visited a six story mall that was mostly upscale stores before ending up back in the tourist and restaurant area where we finished our souvenir shopping.

Dolora and I headed out to the tree lined main street and found a bench where we had a small snack and watched cars and people go by. Back to the hotel for a coffee and the start of packing for our return trip tomorrow.

Dinner was at an outdoor cafe about a ten minute walk away. We had a cheese and sausage (more like sliced salami) sampler with olives, my last olives of the trip. Then Black Pig Pica Pau, slices of pork cooked in olive oil with onions, garlic and bay leaves, a classic Portuguese dish. Dolora had a slice of a kind of pie. It was not very sweet and not the custard she was looking for. We stopped in a bakery on the way back but since there was no chocolate, nothing for me until I got back to the room and had a piece of dark chocolate.

We have an Uber scheduled for 8:30 to get us to the airport for our noon flight and the end of this trek.
