Today was a zero mile rest day. I did not sleep well. It may have been the ice tea with a late dinner. I have not been getting my usual caffeine while hiking so I may be more sensitive to it. I was up early thinking breakfast was at seven but it was at eight thirty. I took advantage of the time before breakfast to sew some small tears in the netting on my backpack. Breakfast was waffles, fruit and granola.
After breakfast, I took a look at my resupply schedule to get me to Virginia. I figured out what food I needed to buy here and did a small repair on my bear bag. I met Sean for lunch. Sean is probably in his early thirties and is planning on hiking to Maine and returning from there to Georgia this season. He hikes big miles but did take a rest day here in Hot Springs. We had an after lunch ice cream and he set off to hike twenty miles. He hikes after dark with his headlamp. I told him to give me a call when he hits Front Royal, Virginia.
I picked up the couple of things I needed from the outfitter and stopped by the visitor center on my way back to my room. Took the time to prepare my journal drafts for the rest of the trip. Elmer’s Sunnybank is the nicest hostel I have stayed at. It is more like a B&B than a hostel. A private room with a double bed and bathroom right outside the door.
I need to pack my backpack tonight and go get some dinner. I am under two hundred miles left so I may start counting down the miles instead of up. I will probably have the opportunity to stay at hostels every other night for most of the remaining time. Looking forward to getting back hiking. I hope the weather does not get any warmer and the thunderstorms wait until I am set up.
Sounds like you are having fun. Good luck and stay safe
