2023 Iceland – Day 7 – Rain In Iceland

on

Friday, 20 January

After having temperatures from 8 to 20 all week, Dolora and I awoke to 40 degrees, wind and rain. Yesterday our tour guide, Max, told us the weather forecast was “yellow” and that we should stay in Reykjavik. We had planned a relaxing day before flying back tomorrow. Temperature in our room is regulated by opening the windows rather than adjusting the heat. It was so windy last night that Dolora got up and closed the window.

Radar showed the rain easing up around noon. We headed down the street to Sjanargrilllo which was one of the stops on the food tour. We started with the Lobster Tacos. Dolora ordered the Pan Fried Cod and a Lamb Shank for me. Another excellent meal.

After lunch we walked around a bit and stopped in the Icelandic Phallological Museum. This is listed as a “must see” in Reykjavik and contains penis specimens of many mammals, mostly whales. Mildly entertaining. A friend of Dolora’s had been telling her about it.

Dolora and I did a little last minute souvenir shopping and walked by the hotel we stayed out during our visit six years ago. A stop at Te and Kaffi for coffees and back to the room for a call with Greg and a little relaxation before a light dinner.

Drizzle continues on and off. Dolora and I headed to Kaffibrennslan for toasted sandwiches and a beer to toast to our last night in Iceland. Beef and Cheese for her and Honey Chicken for me. Sandwiches were good and enough after the big lunch.

We catch the bus to the airport tomorow at noon…
