Sunday, 15 September
I started the day off with a three mile run on a trail following the Werrach River. No one was out early on a Sunday morning, so I had the trail to myself. The nearly full moon was still out this morning. After I got back, Dolora went to take some early morning photos of the old town while I showered. We then walked over to Nicole’s apartment for breakfast with Nicole and Frank. Nicole made delicious scrambled eggs with vegetables. Coffee of course and cheeses, breads and marmalade completed the menu.
Taking advantage of our private guides and chauffeur, we were off on a drive to Murmau Moos, Murmau Moss, a peat bog and wetlands area of over 10,000 acres. Many plant and animal species threatened by extinction have found a refuge in the largest peat bog on the edge of the Alps in Central Europe. Dolora, Nicole, Frank and I took a 7 1/2 mile hike through the nature area. There were beautiful views of the Alps and the wetlands. A short break for lunch and then after the hike, the requisite stop in the town Murmau for gelato. The old part of Murmau is a pedestrian zone. I find the small towns much more relaxing than the big cities. The weather was perfectly clear if a little warm for hiking in the sun. So far we have had incredible weather.
We returned to our hotel for a shower and short rest. Frank and Nicole met us and we took a short walk to dinner at a nearby Turkish restaurant, MyArena, that has doner as its specialty. Doner kebab is a type of kebab, made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Seasoned meat stacked in the shape of an inverted cone is slowly turning on the rotisserie, next to a vertical cooking element. The outer layer is sliced into thin shavings as it cooks. Dolora and I each had Iskender Classic, doner meat with tomatoes and yogurt. Another good meal, if not quite up to the night before. Then Eiscafe da Claudio for ice cream dessert.
Another short walk to Nicole’s apartment for coffee and conversation before calling it a night. The weather is supposed to cool a little but no rain is in the forecast. We will decide on tomorrow’s plans at breakfast.
Very interesting meals. Good for you.
But I love that there is always room for ice cream!!
